The Details:

The Rutland County Solid Waste District owns a MRF recycling center in Rutland City that is leased to Casella Waste Management for their operations. The MRF accepts Zero Sort and more recycling from transfer stations, commercial haulers and large generators for processing and sale for re-use. The facility currently receives approximately 265 tons of recyclables a year from a large geographical area. Since they began tracking material in 2013 the facility has processed over 260,108 tons of recyclables.

The tour includes a luxury bus that leaves from Epsom, NH. The bus has comfortable seating, wi-fi, and a bathroom (yay!) In addition to the luxury bus, a separate comfortable transport van will start in the North Country, so folks in there can easily attend without having to first drive 2 hours down to the NH Recycles office. The luxury bus and van will meet in Lebanon, NH, where the North Country attendees will join the bus for the duration of the trip and tour.

Staff from Casella Waste Management will host the walking tour of the MRF, which will take about 1.5 hours. Following the tour, attendees will enjoy a catered lunch and will participate in a roundtable discussion to answer any questions related to the MRF, as well as general recycling troubleshooting and a recycling market update. NH Recycles will also be showing three newly created professional recycling videos, created through the Recycle Right North Country campaign.

Attendance counts as 4.5 hours of continuing professional development credit for the NHDES Solid Waste Operator Certification.

A Note On Attendee Limitations:

Every year, our annual bus tour sells out, so we do our best to make room for operators to join us from as many towns as possible. Because space is limited, priority is given to municipal member staff that are certified solid waste facility operators.

So here's the deal: for member towns with multiple certified solid waste facility operators, the first 2 operators from each municipality that sign up will be given a spot on the bus. After that, any additional operators will be added to a waitlist and, if there happens to be space on the bus once registration closes, they will also be given a spot on the bus. Similarly, associate members, Recycling Committee members, and other municipal employees or volunteers will also be waitlisted and may be added to the tour as space allows on the bus.
