Let's Recycle Right!
What's the Recycle Right North Country campaign all about?
In 2024, NH Recycles received a grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work with 30 of New Hampshire's North Country communities (all 20 towns in Coös County and the 10 northernmost towns of Grafton County) to share recycling education and outreach materials through Recycling 101 presentations, social media and radio ads, recycling videos, improved transfer station signage, and more. By increasing awareness of recycling programs and sharing real-world recycling education, we hope that residents of and visitors to the North Country will increase the amount they recycle and improve their recycling practices. This means only recycling the things that can actually be recycled in your town, knowing that those items WILL in fact be recycled! YAY!

Town Examples and Testimonials
For the past couple of years, NH Recycles has been working closely with the towns of Littleton, Lancaster, and Northumberland - helping residents, transfer station staff, and town administration to learn more about recycling and waste reduction and improve their individual programs.
Learn more about our work in each town, and examples of what can be recycled through their programs, at the links below.
Dennis Patnoe worked at the Lancaster Transfer Station for 24 years and became a recycling leader with the help of NH Recycles! He appreciates how the Recycle Right North Country project supported the Town of Lancaster with hands-on assistance, educational materials, workshops and new ideas.
Tammy Letson - former Northumberland Town Administrator and current NH Recycles Board Member - shares how the Recycle Right North Country project provided helpful recycling education to the community when they did not have the time or capacity to provide it on their own.
Recycling Videos
In the summer of 2025, we followed recyclables from Lancaster, Littleton, and Northumberland to see exactly what happens when you throw your aluminum cans, cardboard, and glass into the recycling. Our three 2-minute recycling videos follow each of these recyclables to their end market in New Hampshire.
Cardboard Recycling
From Lancaster, NH to Claremont, NH - cardboard recycling is happening right here in NH!
Aluminum Can Recycling
From Northumberland, NH to metal recyclers like Harding Metals in Northwood, NH, an aluminum can can be recycled into a new can in as little as 60 days - learn how!
Glass Recycling
Did you know the glass bottle you recycle could be used in your town's next road project - like Littleton, NH - saving taxpayer dollars and natural resources!
Recycling 101

Have you had a chance to join us for an in-person Recycling 101 presentation? This is the best way to learn about the state of recycling and solid waste in New Hampshire - from the reality of what is being thrown away in our landfills (it will certainly surprise you!) to what happens with your recycling, this presentation will help lay the foundation for your recycling knowledge. We have found that even seasoned transfer station attendants walk away with a new piece of information from this presentation. We are always working on making it better with the latest data and best practices from the field of recycling and solid waste management.
If you can't join us in person, you can watch this prerecorded Recycling 101 presentation from our October 2025 Recycling Summit.(opens in a new tab)
Ready for more? Join NH Recycles' Education & Grants Manager, Andrea Folsom, and NH Department of Environmental Services staff for a deeper dive into recycling in an expanded take on Recycling 101 available on the NHDES solid waste operator channel (free, though registration is required to sign in and view the video).

Recycling Handouts & Facility Signage
If you are a North Country transfer station operator or recycling committee member, this section is for you!
A great way to help residents and visitors best understand your communities recycling program is through clear visuals. This can include postcards, handouts, and signage at your transfer station.
If you are interested in custom recycling postcards or handouts for your town, we can help with that! Fill out the Custom Recycling Handout Form below and our Education & Grants Manager will be in touch with both printable PDFs and digital images that can be posted on your town website to clearly share the details of your recycling program.
If you are interested in upgrading the signs at your transfer station, check out the NH the Beautiful facility sign grant program, linked below. Annually, NH the Beautiful allots 60 points per NH municipality to use to "purchase" new or recycled signage for free. This can mean anywhere from 3 to 6 new signs every year!
