This year, NH Recycles is thrilled to celebrate a remarkable milestone: Paula Dow's 35th work anniversary.
As the Finance and HR Director, Paula has been an unwavering force for the organization, a testament to her dedication and passion. Over her 35-year tenure, she's not just held a job—she's been the backbone of a mission she deeply believes in.
Her commitment is truly impressive, as she has been with NH Recycles for 35 of its 44 years, representing an astonishing 80% of the organization's history. According to NH Recycles' Executive Director, Reagan Bissonnette, Paula's work perfectly embodies the organization's core values.

A Champion of Core Values
Paula's approach to her work is a reflection of NH Recycles' guiding principles. Her member-centered mindset ensures that every financial decision and program change is viewed through the lens of its impact on members and vendors. As Brian Patnoe, Member Services Director shares, "Paula’s dedication to our members and vendors has been the backbone of our non-profit and why it has been successful. That has allowed Member Services and Logistics to help our members more."
She is a master of follow-up and follow-through. Stewarding the finances for NH Recycles' co-op programs, which involve a massive $5-7 million in cash flow, is no small feat. Paula navigates endless financial mysteries to ensure the numbers are accurate and transparent for both the organization and its members.
Paula also excels at connecting and educating. The detailed financial data she manages provides towns with a wealth of information, enabling them to make informed decisions about their recycling programs. And at one precarious moment in NH Recycles' history, Paula even had to educate the board on a stark reality: the organization didn't have enough money at the time to close its doors! (We are all glad that didn't happen!)

A Legacy of Innovation and Collaboration
Throughout her career, Paula has consistently demonstrated a commitment to saving time and solving problems. She has overseen the evolution of NH Recycles’ financial systems from simple pen and paper to advanced online databases, ensuring the organization remains current and efficient. Her creativity is legendary; she even launched a "donate a load of cardboard" campaign to help raise the down payment for NH Recycles' first property.

Paula's ability to collaborate and build partnerships is equally impressive. She has worked alongside nine different executive directors during her time, developing the skills to adapt and thrive with a wide range of people and personalities.
But it's not just her professionalism that stands out. As Steve Bean (pictured, sitting), NH Recycles' Municipal Recycling Advisor affectionately notes, "I love Paula's laugh, first ask questions later approach!"
Lindsay Dow (pictured), NH Recycles' Administrative Specialist - and more importantly, Paula's daughter - perfectly sums up her impact:
"Paula has dedicated 35 years not to a job, but to an organization she has always been passionate about. Paula has worked in many capacities and worn several 'hats' in the organization over the years and with a smile. We appreciate her hard work, sense of humor, and her kindness."
Paula's dedication, wit, and unwavering commitment have not only shaped NH Recycles but have also created a lasting legacy. Cheers to 35 years, Paula!
