Outgoing trustees gratitude message

NH Recycles would like to extend its deepest gratitude to three distinguished members of our Board of Trustees who are concluding their dedicated service: John Hurd, Brian Bartram, and Roger Guzowski. Their collective expertise, unwavering commitment, and invaluable leadership have been instrumental in shaping our organization and advancing our mission over the years.

John Hurd: A Champion of Rural Recycling

John Hurd

Since joining the board in 2007, John Hurd has been a steadfast advocate for cost-effective recycling in rural areas. As the Solid Waste Manager for the Londonderry Solid Waste Group in Vermont, John's extensive experience has been a cornerstone of the board. His background is rich with practical knowledge, including his time as the Vermont program manager for PaintCare, where he helped establish a statewide paint recycling system. His work with the Greater Upper Valley Solid Waste Management District and the Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District has provided our board with critical insights into the unique challenges and opportunities facing communities in the region. John’s passion for environmental science, which he studied at Johnson State College, shines through in his work and has been a tremendous asset to NH Recycles.

Brian Bartram: A Driving Force in Modern Waste Management

Brian Bartram

Brian Bartram, the longtime manager of the Salisbury/Sharon Transfer Station in Connecticut, has been a dynamic force on the board. Since 2007, Brian has not only managed the construction and operation of a new transfer station but also actively contributed to broader recycling initiatives. His involvement with NH Recycles, the CT Department of Energy & Environmental Protection’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee, and the CT Product Stewardship Council demonstrates his deep commitment to the field. Brian’s appointment by Governor Malloy to the Modernizing Recycling Working Group further underscores his influence and expertise. We are grateful for his forward-thinking approach and his dedication to improving recycling systems.

Roger Guzowski: A Pioneer in Campus Recycling

Roger Guzowski

Roger brought a wealth of knowledge to the board, drawn from his 20 years of managing award-winning campus recycling programs across Massachusetts and California. His work in the Five Colleges consortium is a testament to his ability to implement effective and impactful programs. Roger's leadership extends beyond the campus, as a former Vice-Chair of the national College & University Recycling Council (CURC) and a Co-Chair of similar councils in both MassRecycle and the California Resource Recovery Association. His move to Joseph Freedman Co., Inc., as the Institutional and Government Accounts Manager, continues his important work in the industry. We sincerely appreciate the insights he has shared from his years of experience.

As they step down, we want to express our profound appreciation for the time, energy, and wisdom each of them has contributed. Their legacy will continue to guide our work as we strive to build a more sustainable future for New Hampshire.

Thank you, John, Brian, and Roger, for your exceptional service!
